Meet Our Spiritual Directors

Laura Baber

Laura completed her training as a spiritual director in 1999 from the Center for Spiritual Formation in Pennsylvania. She has a Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary and Is an ordained Deacon in the United Methodist Church.

Laura’s passion in spiritual direction is to work with those on the front lines of the kingdom. She specializes in journeying with cross cultural ministers, those who know traumatic loss and those who are experiencing a deconstruction of rigid religious beliefs.

Laura helped give birth to Equipping Lydia along with many others who prayed and served as midwives and encouragers of this gentle work.

Laura lives a life of beautiful redemption with her husband John in Florida where she finds healing in gardening and walks. Laura enjoys dreaming about what to serve at dinner parties and has a penchant for hummus and lamb.

Currently Laura is at capacity and not receiving new guests for spiritual direction.

Jacqueline Hollowell

I completed training in the  Ministry of Spiritual Direction Program offered  by The Center For Spiritual Formation through Asbury Theological Seminary in 2017.

I have  a BS degree in Interior Design, and Computer Aided Drafting and Design, AA degree in General Education.

My hearts desire is to see others develop in their spiritual walk with God and become more consciously aware of His presence in their life’s journey. It has often been said I am a good listener. People have a tendency to be drawn to me and feel free in sharing their life’s journey, even in a very intimate way. It is such a joy and source of fulfillment hearing and listening to others as they are able to share their life’s journey then seek to point them to Christ.

Jenny Strange

Jenny has resided in Wilmore with her husband for more than 10 years. She has 2 active boys and enjoys reading, being outdoors, going on walks, and hanging out with family.

Jenny completed her training as a spiritual director in 2017 from The Center for Spiritual Formation, facilitated by EL and Asbury Seminary.  Jenny's heart is to prayerfully and gently journey with and encourage others seeking to attend to their own spiritual journey.  Her personal faith experience has been deepened by spiritual direction along the ups, downs, and in-betweens of life.  She is honored to have opportunities to listen to and companion others on their daily walk with Christ.

For over 20 years Jenny has actively served in local church ministries in various capacities. These include working alongside her husband in youth ministry, prayer ministry, and children’s ministry.  Her favorite role was leading youth small groups.

She  obtained her degree in physical therapy from Indiana University in 1998 and works as a physical therapist in the geriatric population.  Her life has been greatly enriched by working with the young at heart!

Jenny offers appointments in Wilmore or online and in the evenings this summer.

Darrell Hathcock

Darrell became aware of a great need among adult Christian men to discern, to trust and to follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit after attending a half-day, Holy Listening retreat offered through Equipping Lydia.

He was a full-time student then at Asbury Theological Seminary pursing a M.Div., commuting from London, KY, and serving part-time as pastor of First Christian (DoC) Church in Barbourville.

“Before that Saturday morning in Wilmore, I knew God’s voice would speak about strategic things in my life. I did not appreciate or trust how God’s Spirit seeks to speak into my soul in the middle of routine, daily things of life. I’m so grateful for that awakening even though I was the only man on that women’s retreat,” Darrell says. Before saying “yes” to God’s call into pastoral ministry, Darrell was a retired high school science teacher and worked in the newspaper business. He also has certificates in Spiritual Direction and Christian Healing Prayer.

As a widower, his passions are: spending time with his adult daughter when work schedules allow; gardening; researching a future pilgrimage to Great Britain to retrace the history of Christianity that came to America; reading and reflecting on practical theology and the transformation of aging, declining congregations.

Since graduation from Asbury and ordination in 2017, Darrell continues to serve as pastor of the church in Barbourville.

Darrell also facilitates the training of a group of Kentucky students who are discerning their call as spiritual directors through the Center for Spiritual Formation in Carlisle, PA.

He is available for online spiritual direction on a limited schedule Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings beginning in October, 2018, through February, 2019.

Jennie Wheaton

I was first introduced to spiritual direction at a season in life that was not going so well. I was living and serving as a missionary in Monterrey, Mexico and found myself broken, depressed, isolated, and in need of great healing. I found a spiritual director through Equipping Lydia and am convinced God used this ministry to help rescue me out of deep darkness.

I moved back to Wilmore, Kentucky in the fall of 2014 (I completed a degree in Intercultural Studies at Asbury Seminary in 2012) and doors quickly opened to be trained and equipped in spiritual direction. In 2017, I received completed training through the Center for Spiritual Formation to be a certified spiritual director.

My heart is to journey particularly alongside women who are preparing to or are currently serving cross-culturally. Until now, I have journeyed with mostly young adult women, but I am definitely open to walking with others as well! I have enjoyed getting to practice spiritual direction in different places around the world and online via Skype.

I am still living in Wilmore with my husband Isaac and our friendly cat Gracie. I work as a mobilizer for TMS Global and live and work out of The Yellow House (a space we use to host missionaries and have gatherings with students from the seminary and university). I am excited to see the ways the Lord continues to integrate missions and for formation both in my own life and in the lives of others.

If you are interested in meeting with me for spiritual direction, please email me at jenclem07@hotmail.com.
